Inspiration through travel.

Inspire to desire. The saying really is true. Whether it be traveling on site visits or visiting conferences, we LOVE immersing ourselves in design. Inspiration serves a powerful role at Studio 11 Design because it allows us to awaken our creativity and test new possibilities before even beginning a new project. Hospitality design is constantly evolving and with that comes the need for us to keep up with trends. Recently, Principal Kellie Sirna visited Cuba and was on the lookout to see how the recent development of the city with added tourism could affect the hospitalityindustry. She gathered tons of inspiration along the way! Below are some of our favorite photos she had taken. Enjoy.

The beautiful vintage cars lining the streets in Cuba are a tribute to the nostalgia of the city and serve as great inspiration behind developing the city in the future!

Growing tobacco is anything but ordinary in Cuba. Captured above are photos of a pristine tobacco plantation in Vinales Valley, Cuba.

Meet Ashley!

Meet Ashley, our newest interior designer at Studio 11 Design! With three years’ experience in the Hospitality Industry, Ashley has proven to be well past her years and understands what it takes to complete a successful hospitality project from start to finish. Her dedication and skill-set allows her to develop new concepts and set a wonderful example of Studio 11 Design in various settings. We decided to ask Ashley some fun questions so everyone could get to know her more!

1)      If you were on American Idol tomorrow, what song would you sing and why?

"Shake it Off" by Taylor Swift... because life is all about how you handle certain situations. The older I get, the more I'm learning  that sometimes you just need to not sweat the small stuff and to keep moving forward. And I want to be her, so that of course is a major deciding factor ;).

2)      If you were a color, what would you be and why?

This is such a hard question for me because color is something that I'm absolutely enthralled with. Based on my personality, and what I gravitate to the most, if I were a color I would be orange. Because it's such a warm and inviting color and it's a color that gets people thinking and talking. This is the color that I feel very comfortable saying that coincides with my character.

3)      What chore do you absolutely hate doing?

Hands down-without a doubt has to be doing laundry. Although I love organization in the home and am pretty keen on it, laundry is a never-ending battle that never seems to be truly done. Everything else in the house I can handle!

4)      If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?

If I wasn't to suffer from the horrific consequences of carbs, it would most definitely be pasta. My immediate family is Italian, so naturally I have the palette for a perfected dish of spaghetti! Every year around Christmas time, my family gets together and we hand-make pasta and the 'secret' sauce with meatballs, and if anyone from the outside world gets a chance to eat  our leftovers... don't pass them up!

5)      Let's say you had three days to go anywhere in the world and spending limits are not a concern. Where would you go and why?

That's easy... Italy. And I would tour the entire country as much as I could! Along with the history of interiors, the architecture alone would be the most breathtaking to be able to encounter.

6)      If you won the lottery, what is the first thing you could do?

Pay off my student loans! After I was completely debt free, I would dedicate my time to giving back to the community and help with as many charities as I could. I have always had an innate characteristic to help those in need, and especially to brainstorm new ideas and ways to give back.

7)      Who is your celebrity crush?

Bradley Cooper. Amazing actor (especially in American Sniper), and not too bad on the eyes either... ;).

8)      If you could meet anyone, living or dead, who would you want to meet?

Ellen DeGeneres. I love her attitude on life and she is so energetic and fun-not to mention, so giving and caring to those in need.

Hotel Business Design Article

Co-owner and Principal of Studio 11 Design, Kellie Sirna, recently
collaborated with Loraine Francis, regional director of hospitality
interiors for Gensler and Matthew Marin, a writer for Hotel
Business Design Magazine to write an article discussing popular
lighting and fan trends in the design industry.

In the article, Kellie mentions that "clustering different types of
lighting and mixing sizes" are trending moves for modern hotels. Many of
these design ideas have made their way into several Studio 11 Design
projects, check out the gallery on our website to see how!

Studio 11 Picks -> Agate

From coasters and platters, tables to lamps, there’s no limit to where you can use a pretty rock like Agate or Malachite. These stones begin as volcanic lava but once hardened, they turn into beautiful jewel-toned cuts. Whether you’re looking for a statement piece or a small accessory, Agate is a fan favorite here at Studio 11 and a fun way to incorporate luxurious design.

Studio 11 Picks -> Geometry

Remember when your geometry teacher warned you about studying because there would come a time in life when you would need to know this information?  Yeah, well, that time didn’t come did it. Until now.  Geometry is making a huge comeback in design, from accessories, rugs, lighting, wallcovering and even furniture. The sharp lines and bold colors have all of us at Studio 11 Design swooning. Better brush up on those angles!

Tracy

Meet one of our designers, Tracy! We asked her some fun questions so everyone would know just a little bit about her.
1.        What is one thing that some people might not know about you? My husband &  I collect sand from all the beaches we’ve visited while on trips together.  I keep them separated and on display in pretty decorative vases/bottles in our home.
2.        If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?  Pizza or Nachos.. I love both equally.
3.        What made you get into the design business? I love the amount of creativity that design provides.  It’s fun, exciting, and challenging all at the same time!
4.        What movies could you watch over and over again and still love?  One of my all time favorite movies is Elf.  It’s a mix of my two favorite things – the holidays and ridiculous jokes.
5.        What is one of your favorite quotes? Why? There is a certain happiness in being silly and ridiculous” – This quote is me in a nutshell. My friends would say I’m pretty silly and couldn’t be happier then when I’m sharing a good laugh.
6.        What superpower would you want if you could choose?  Hmm.. maybe fly?  It sure would be nice to beat the Dallas traffic.
7.        If you could be any ice cream flavor, what would it be?  Ben & Jerry’s ‘Chunky Monkey’ is my favorite.  Banana ice cream with chocolate chunks and pecans – what’s not to love?!
8.        What current fashion trend do you love right now? If you know me, you know I love all things girly J  So I definitely love fashion!  Trends I’m currently into are colored denim, bangles, bright colors, and I always love stripes.
9.        What do you enjoy doing during your free time?  I love spending time with my friends and family, shopping, movies, and out-of-town trips!
10.      What do you miss about being a kid?  My metabolism – Ha! I remember being able to eat anything and everything when I was younger… wish I could still say the same!
11.        Best moment in your life so far.   My wedding day – I could relive it over and over again.  It was perfect for us!
